Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game 6
Islanders vs. Penguins
Saturday, May 11, 2013 - 7:00 p.m. - Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Uniondale, NY Note: Page will automatically refresh every 60 seconds.
Brock Nelson skating during warm-ups. He'd be making his NHL debut if he gets the nod. Tomas Vokoun looks to be back in for Pittsburgh, after a 31-save shutout in Game 5. Some juggling among the top two lines for the Penguins, as Jarome Iginla will flank Sidney Crosby, and Chris Kunitz will wing Evgeni Malkin's line. Full lines below. 1st Period
1:19: Icing on Pittsburgh, and they use their timeout early. Their starters are still out there.
5:36: John Tavares lights the lamp, and it's 1-0 Islanders.
His line had the puck in the zone a lot, and Josh Bailey and Tavares each had chances just seconds before. Bailey backhanded a pass from the corner to Tavares in the slot, and he wristed it past Tomas Vokoun's glove. M-V-P chant from the crowd ensues.
7:39: Penguins score on a quick push the other way, and it's 1-1.
Crosby broke in and backhanded a shot, but Iginla knocked in the rebound while Evgeni Nabokov was sprawled out. Paul Martin with the second helper.
16:57: Lots of good net presence for the Isles. Several deflections have either been stopped by Vokoun or just missed the target. Shots: NYI 11 PIT 5.
19:12: Big stop by Nabokov on a Crosby backhand.
19:23: Colin McDonald puts the Isles up 2-1
with 37 seconds left in the frame. Grabner with a big hit behind the Pens goal. The puck wound up on Keith Aucoin's stick, and he wasted no time feeding across to McDonald for the one-timer from just outside the crease.
End 1st: NYI 2 PIT 1. Shots: NYI 12 PIT 7.2nd Period
3:02: Third time in the game the Penguins have been unable to clear the zone for an extended period of time. Finally they get a break after Travis Hamonic's shot is deflected up into the seats. Shots: NYI 15 PIT 7
4:36: Radek Martinek draws a boarding call on Brenden Morrow, and the Isles get the game's first power play.
5:05: Not often you see Matt Moulson AND Tavares unable to convert chances from the doorstep, but that just happened.
6:10: Mad scramble in front, and there's about six bodies laying around as Brad Boyes grabbed the puck. Refs thought Vokoun had the puck under control.
10:41: Isles kill a minor penalty, making PIT 0-for-1 on the power play today. They didn't get many chances at all, either. Shots: NYI 22 PIT 9. Isles had first nine shots of the period.
10:59: Pascal Dupuis evens it up as he attacked the net hard and took a pass from Joe Vitale and beat Nabokov to the blocker-side. Game is tied 2-2.
14:04: Matt Cooke hits Cizikas a little too hard and too late after the play, and gets sent to the box for interference. Isles are 0-for-1 on the man advantage.
16:04: Nothing doing on the power play, but the Islanders have a 25-12 advantage in shots now.
16:28: Puck got mixed up along the Pens bench during a line change, and they're getting a delay of game penalty. James Neal goes to serve it. Islanders are right back to the power play.
18:28: Islanders now 0-for-3. Best chance was when Moulson and Tavares tried an exchange down low, but Vokoun threw his stick out to break up the pass.
19:34: Big save by Nabokov on Kunitz, after the winger received a pass from Crosby on the right side.
End 2nd: NYI 2 PIT 2. Shots: NYI 28 PIT 13 (16-6 Islanders in the period).3rd Period
2:21: Keith Aucoin interception inside the Pens blue. He fakes a shot and finds Grabner on the right side of the goal for a one-timer. Isles had numbers there. Pretty much a 2-on-0, as a Pens d-man was late getting back. 3-2 Isles.
8:08: Radek Martinek with a blast from the slot, but save Vokoun. Crowd showing their appreciation for the way the Islanders have controlled play, especially of late. Shots: NYI 31 PIT 15.
14:44: Pittsburgh ties it at 3-3.
One-time blast from the left point by Paul Martin goes in off Nabokov's glove and the iron. Evgeni Malkin with the primary helper.
End 3rd: We've got overtime, folks. NYI 3 PIT 3. Shots: NYI 35 PIT 19. Overtime
4:49: Letang almost just ended it on a one-timer from Neal, but he pushed it over the bar.
5:26: Wraparound attempt from Grabner had the fans ready to blow the roof off this place, but it went across the crease.New York IslandersForwards
