Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game 4
Islanders vs. Penguins
Tuesday, May 7, 2013 - 7:00 p.m. - Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Uniondale, NY Note: Page will automatically refresh every 60 seconds.
Same group on the ice for the Islanders tonight. Pittsburgh gets a boost from James Neal and Brooks Orpik coming back into the lineup.1st Period
1:26: Pittsburgh takes an early penalty. John Tavares draws a hooking call on Evgeni Malkin, so the Isles power play will go to work.
3:15: Kyle Okposo just pushed a rebound wide of the net. Islanders with lots of pressure on the power play.
7:01: Keith Aucoin with a shot from a hard angle, but a save by Fleury. Now the Pens are getting a penalty - Brooks Orpik, 2 for roughing, for a hit on Colin McDonald well after the play was over. Second man advantage of the night for the home team. Shots: NYI 5 PIT 1.
14:05: A floater from Brian Strait might have caught something on the way to the back of the net. Either way, it's 1-0 Islanders
and the crowd is rockin. He was fading away, trying to figure out what play to make, and just threw it on net. Went off a PIT defender and in to Fleury's left. Assists to Lubomir Visnovsky and Casey Cizikas.
14:50: Pittsburgh wastes no time getting one back. James Neal one-timer from a hard angle on the right side gets between Evgeni Nabokov and the post. Tied 1-1.
Malkin and Jarome Iginla with the helpers.
19:16: Huge save by Nabokov on Iginla across the grain.
19:34: Interference being called on Matt Cooke. He's been in the middle of a lot of stuff in this series. 25.5 seconds of power play before intermission. Isles are 0-for-2 so far.
End 1st: NYI 1 PIT 1. Shots: NYI 10 PIT 7.2nd Period
3:26: Strait gets two for hi-sticking. First power play of the night for the Penguins.
5:26: Puck never left the zone, but a successful kill at the end of the day. Lots, and I mean lots, of chances however. Not sure how it stayed out of the net. Lots of collapsing down low from the PK unit.
5:41: Big save by Nabokov on a blue line shot, and the crowd recognizes it.
5:48: Isles head back to the power play. Cooke gets nailed for goaltender interference, as he plows into Nabokov. Isles are 0-for-3.
6:19: Funny bounce winds up back at the point, and Mark Streit streaking in blasts a slap shot that pinballs its way to the back of the net. Isles lead 2-1. Scoring change:
John Tavares is being credited with the goal, as he was the last to touch it on the way in.
7:17: Less than a minute later, Malkin evens it up at 2-2
with a goal from the right side. He took the snap shot during a 2-on-1 rush and picked his corner. A mix-up during an Islanders line change set up the rush.
11:03: Brandon Sutter's shot from the left circle makes it 3-2 Pittsburgh.
Not sure what that hit on its way in that made it go top shelf, but Nabokov was coming out to close the angle while Matt Carkner and Cooke were tied up to his left.
13:07: MacDonald penalized for holding, but Keith Aucoin is serving the minor as A-Mac gets looked at by the training staff.
15:08: Big stop by Nabokov on Brenden Morrow just as Aucoin exits the box, and we're back to even strength just in time for a TV timeout.
17:45: Nabokov hangs in there on an upstairs shot from Iginla during a 2-on-1.
18:36: Crazy attempt from behind the Pens goal, and it looks like that's going to be Cizikas' goal. Maybe Okposo's. Ties the game up at 3-3
with 1:24 left. Okposo's attmpe from behind the goal line went off Fleury, and Cizikas had a stick in there. They're giving it to Okposo in the building.
End 2nd: NYI 3 PIT 3. Shots: NYI 17 PIT 19. 3rd Period
0:41: Pascal Dupuis tees one up from the left side, and it hits traffic on the way under Nabokov. Kunitz with the assist. 4-3 Penguins.
3:53: Malkin goes away for holding. McDonald gets penalized for embellishment. 4-on-4 for two minutes.
4:30: Streit scores and evens it up at 4-4.
Fleury was drifting to his right, and Streit placed it low to his left from the middle point.
10:11: Tavares brings the crowd to their feet with a huge goal on a second chance. Brad Boyes forced a turnover, and fed Tavares in the middle. The centerman slalomed around two defenders and patiently picked his shot. First one was stopped, but he got the second one past Fleury's outstretched pad. 5-4 Isles.
11:00: Matt Martin just wound up in the PIT bench, and got abused a little from the non-participants, but no penalty. That followed a long back-and-forth between him and a couple of Penguins players on the ice that carried over to a line change. This series is getting really interesting.
17:41: Icing called after Tavares made a great play with his stick to get the puck out of the zone. Shots: NYI 23 PIT 30. Timeout Isles.
18:44: Casey Cizikas scores on a semi-breakaway, and we might need a new roof. 6-4 Isles
as Fleury was backtracking from his beeline to the bench. Not sure how Z snuck that one in.New York IslandersForwards
