Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game 5
Islanders at Penguins

Thursday, May 9, 2013 - 7:00 p.m. - CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh, PA

Note: Page will automatically refresh every 60 seconds.

The big story tonight is Tomas Vokoun in goal for Marc-Andre Fleury, after the Penguins starter allowed six goals in Game 4. Looks like we may see Joe Vitale and Tyler Kennedy for the first time in this series as well. The Islanders had both Radek Martinek and Matt Carkner out during the warm-ups, so we'll see who gets paired with Mark Streit. Thomas Hickey looks to be in for sure. More shifting going on with the D-pairs as Brian Strait was alongside Travis Hamonic during warm-ups.

Update: Martinek gets the nod. Carkner is scratched.

1st Period
3:24: It's physical early. Lots of chippy play behind the Islanders goal, and Brian Strait is getting penalized for interference.

5:24: Penalty over. One scare on a shot from the right side, but Nabokov deflected it behind the goal as the goal judge turned on the red light for a split-second.

7:36: Good chance in transition for the Isles, as Colin McDonald rebounded a Michael Grabner shot, but Vokoun was in position for the stop. James Neal is going off for roughing after the play for a late shove on Keith Aucoin

9:17: Great little move at the blue line and beyond by Kyle Okposo to get off a backhand shot, but another save from Vokoun. Okie split all four Pittsburgh penalty killers to get the chance.

9:36: Neal out of the box, and the crowd is chanting for the home team again. Both teams 0-for-1 on the man advantage.

11:13: Neal and Evgeni Malkin combined for a one-two opportunity in front of Nabokov, but the Islanders netminder lays out to keep the game scoreless.

18:58: Grabner and McDonald with a 2-on-1, but Vokoun cuts off the angle on Grabner's shot. Shots: NYI 13 PIT 7.

End 1st: NYI 0 PIT 0. Shots: NYI 14 PIT 7.

2nd Period
3:37: McDonald with the first good chance for the Isles in the period. He maneuvered around Craig Adams at the blue line and got a good wrist shot off. Still scoreless.

4:09: Iginla with a great chance on a clean look at Nabokov. He pushed the backhand just wide though.

7:25: Tyler Kennedy, playing in his first game of the series, somehow got behind all the D, took a pass at the Isles blue line, skated in and wristed one top shelf over Nabokov's glove for the game's first tally. Kris Letang with the long feed up the ice on that one and the Pens lead 1-0.

8:47: Doug Murray wrists one from the left side from distance, and it's 2-0. Nabby is going to want that one back. It seemed harmless, but crossed him up and fluttered up off his shoulder and in just under the cross-bar. Travis Hamonic couldn't get to the puck in time to clear it out.

10:50: Big stop by Nabokov on Iginla after the winger took a feed from Crosby in the middle and batted it out of mid-air on target. Shots: NYI 21 PIT 19.

14:00: Pens make it 3-0 on Sidney Crosby's goal. He broke in, stickhandled around a couple of defensemen and had a good look before depositing the forehand in the back of the net. Iginla and Pascal Dupuis with the assists.

15:13: Pens have out-shot the Islanders 17-9 in this period. 24-23 in the game.

End 2nd: PIT 3 NYI 0. Shots: NYI 25 PIT 25.

3rd Period
4:54: Great chance in front by Keith Aucoin, but once again, Vokoun stood his ground.

5:37: Matt Martin is getting whistled for a little extra shove on Paul Martin. Roughing the call. Looked like it could have gone to either Martin.

5:43: And just like that, the Penguins make them pay for it. 4-0. Kris Letang. Off the draw from Crosby and Martin. Shot from the top of the left circle goes over Nabokov's right shoulder. Gotta hand it to Crosby for the no-look backhand saucer pass.

5:43: Kevin Poulin comes in for the Islanders.

16:31: Neal just misses a chance from the side of the net. Game remains 4-0. Shots: NYI 31 PIT 28.
