7:00 p.m. - Prudential Center - Newark, NJ 1st Period
2:35: Eric Boulton and Krystopher Barch with the fisticuffs. Two of the more seasoned fighters in the league just went old school. Lots of gear on the ice by the end of this one. No clear winner, but the referee stepped in just as Barch looked to be losing his footing.
5:46: Time for the Islanders penalty kill to go to work. 19-for-20 on the year so far. Matt Martin in the box, serving Evgeni Nabokov's minor for tripping.
7:46: Make that 20-for-21. Nabokov with a save on Dainius Zubrus from the doorstep. A clear down the ice and we're back at even strength.
10:51: At the TV Timeout. Still scoreless. Shots: NYI 1 NJD 8. Islanders have had the puck in the Devils zone a few times but not much on goal.
13:51: Andy Greene going off for interference. Islanders power play with a chance to build some momentum. Shots: NYI 1 NJD 10
14:31: Just like that, Tavares scores and it's 1-0. Nielsen with a pass from the boards hrough two defenders to Boyes in the slot. It looked like Boyes tried to shoot, and when he did, a Devils defender lifted his stick. As a result, puck went right to Tavares, who wristed it home. NYI 1-0
. Tavares has a three-game goal streak.
End 1st: NYI 1 NJD 0. Shots: NYI 7 NJD 10. Interesting tidbit: Shots were 6-2 in the Islanders favor after that Greene minor. Power plays have a funny way of shifting momentum sometimes
1:21: New Jersey fans not happy about that call, a tripping minor on Marek Zidlicky. Islanders PP is 1-for-1.
2:41: NYI 2-0.
Travis Hamonic with a beautiful feed from the right side across to Keith Aucoin. First attempt looked like it was blocked, but Aucoin banged at the rebound and scored his fourth of the season. Islanders are 2-for-2 on the job tonight,
4-for-4 since Tuesday
5-for-5 since the third period Sunday against Wininpeg.
3:13: Devils make it 2-1
on a scramble. Puck pinballed around from Stephen Gionta to Steve Bernier, who scores his first of the season.
6:21: Islanders unable to clear the zone and it’s 2-2
. Ryan Carter bats his own rebound out of midair from the crease. Initial shot from a hard angle was taken by Matt Anderson. Gionta with his second helper tonight.
7:31: Tavares breaks in and makes it 3-2 with his second of the game. Puck made its way out of the Islander s zone off an errant pass, and it was a footrace. Tavares beat his man down the ice, and collided with Martin Brodeur going hard toward the net. Goal was unassisted.
8:15: Islanders on the penalty kill again. Ullstrom to the box for interference.
10:15: Isles are 21-for-22 this season on the PK. @EHornick
, eat your heart out. Wondering if we're nearing some kind of franchise high-water mark.
12:00: they just added assists to Tavares' second goal. Moulson and Nabokov with the helpers. That's two for Nabby through six games.
17:12: Devils tie it at 3-3
after spending a long time in the Islanders zone. Henrik Tallinder kept in a clearing attempt just inside the blue line and fed it along the boards to Travis Zajac. A couple seconds later, the puck was back on the stick of Tallinder, who picked a corner on a wrister from high in the zone.
18:13: Hamonic to the box for hooking. Islanders 2-for-2 on the kill.
18:17: Nabokov with a nice glove save on a slapper through traffic.
19:10: Grabner hits iron on a shorthanded breakaway. That was 100-percent created by speed.
End 2nd: NYI 3 NJD 3. Shots: NYI 22 NJD 21. Still 13 seconds left on the Hamonic minor.3rd Period
0:13: Islanders officially 3-for-3 tonight on the PK. 22-for-23 on the season.
6:58: Still tied at 3-3. Shots: NYI 26 NJD 22.
7:51: Here we go again. Nielsen to the box for tripping.
9:57: Killed that one off. 17,625 in the building thought David Clarkson had a breakaway a minute ago, but Casey Cizikas had other plans, diving to knock the puck away in the slot.
11:32: Islanders have their third lead of the night. 4-3
. Streit shot from the point - looked to be tipped by Aucoin for his second of the game, fifth of the season.
13:18: They're giving it to Streit in the building. It would be his third of the year. Either way, Islanders lead 4-3.
13:50: Check that. We're tied at 4-4.
The Devils refuse to go away. Clarkson had the puck stripped off his stick in the left circle, but Adam Henrique, playing in his first game of the season, is the beneficiary of a fortunate bounce. His backhander ties it.
17:26: Still tied 4-4. Shots: NYI 31 NJD 28.
18:31: If the Islanders want a point tonight, they're going to have to kill another one. Too many men on the ice. Okposo serving it.
19:46: Nabokov big save on Elias.
End 3rd: We're headed to overtime, ladies and gentlemen. For the first time tonight I can comfortably say next goal wins the game. Shots: NYI 31 NJD 31. Still 31 seconds left on the PK.Overtime
0:31: Decent chance Elias just hit the post as Okposo was coming out of the box. But we're still playing here in Newark.
1:47: Islanders are going to get one back. Tallinder 2 minutes for cross-checking Moulson behind the NJ net. Islanders call timeout. New York IslandersForwards
