by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

The New York Islanders are reaching out to their fans to help tackle hunger this Thanksgiving. Teaming up with Island Harvest and the Long Island Board of Realtors, the Islanders will host a food drive prior to the game on Wednesday, November 25 against the Philadelphia Flyers at 7 p.m.

“The Islanders are pleased to work with organizations such as Island Harvest and the Long Island Board of Realtors that make such a profound impact in our own backyard,” said Islanders President Chris Dey. “The difference they make is invaluable and we are proud to be a part of it.”
Island Harvest assists non-for-profit organizations to supply food to those who are in need across Long Island. Since 1992, Island Harvest has delivered over 56 million pounds of food, supplementing nearly 44 million meals.
“The New York Islanders are such an important part of life on Long Island,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest. “We are extremely thankful to the entire organization and their loyal fans for supporting Island Harvest in our fight against hunger throughout the year,”

Through the non-for-profit organization, Realtors Against Hunger, the Long Island Board of Realtors will sponsor a food drive to benefit Island Harvest.
In its second consecutive year, Realtors Against Hunger has collected non-perishable food items at various real estate offices throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens to provide food to local pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs that feed the hungry.
“With more than 300,000 children and adults facing hunger or potential malnutrition in the region, the Long Island Board of Realtors must respond to the needs of our communities,” said Long Island Board of Realtors President Buddy Hoosein. “Especially in these difficult times for so many families.”

Island Harvest and the Long Island Board of Realtors will be collecting canned food at the outside of the Box Office, Gate 1, Gate 5, and Gate 16. They will begin collecting cans at 6:00PM when the gates open.

Fans are encouraged to donate three or more non-perishable food items, and in return, receive one (1) ticket voucher per person to the December 21 game versus the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7 p.m.
