's Shawinigan Cataractes advanced to the semi-finals of the 2012 Memorial Cup with a 6-1 win over the WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings.
The Cataractes took a 1-0 lead at 7:30 of the opening period when Kabanov and Brandon Gormley assisted on Yannick Veilleux's first goal of the tournament. Morgan Ellis scored on the man advantage late in the period, giving Shawinigan a 2-0 lead.
The tournament hosts stayed on the offensive, scoring four goals in the middle frame. Anton Zlobin and Kabanov each scored in the first three minutes of the period. The goal was the first of the tournament for Kabanov, who also has three assists in four games so far.
Later in the second period, the Cataractes' Michael Bournival scored on the power play, and Pierre-Olivier Morin posted a short-handed tally, making the score 6-0.
Toward the end of the second period, Edmonton's Henrik Samuelsson lit the lamp, cutting Shawinigan's lead to 6-1. Neither team scored in the final frame.
The win sets up a rematch on Friday between the Cataractes and QMJHL rival Saint John Sea Dogs. The two teams played Wednesday, with the Sea Dogs winning 4-1. The winner of the semi-final will take on the London Knights on Sunday at 7 p.m.GAME SUMMARY
