The kids at Hoyt Farm Preserve in Commack were both surprised and excited Thursday when they saw the 30 foot Islanders RV pull into their parking lot with goaltender Joey MacDonald behind the wheel—honking the horn and waving to the children. The kids waved from along the road as Joey pulled into the field right next to the I.C.E. Tour inflatables. He then popped out of the RV and sat down and signed autographs for more than 200 excited young fans, who ranged in age from 5- to 12-years-old. MacDonald—who won 16 games in net for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last season—then organized a game of street hockey with the kids, as Team MacDonald faced off against his arch nemesis, Team Sparky. After playing five games of hockey with the children, Joey wished his new friends goodbye and drove off in the RV. “The kids get so excited when this thing rolls in,” said Joey, as he drove through the parking lot. “It really makes for a good time and it’s always great to see the big smiles on the children’s faces.”
