The New York Islanders announced today that forward Jesse Joensuu has been recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Joensuu, 23, has a team-high 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 16 games this season with the Sound Tigers. The Pori, Finland, native ranked second on the Sound Tigers last season with 48 points (14 goals, 34 assists) in 70 games, while also seeing action in eleven National Hockey League games with the Islanders and posting one goal with a +4 rating.
The Islanders drafted Joensuu in the second round, 60th overall, of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-4, 209 lbs. left wing made his NHL debut in 2008-09, during his first full season in North America.
