Three Islanders fans won the experience of a lifetime this season, flying to Philadelphia in a private plane as part of Hopscotch Air’s “Away Game in Style” online promotion. On April 7, Mary-Jane Creamer, her husband and daughter flew into enemy territory to watch the Islanders take on the Flyers, before jetting back to Long Island.
“It was my family's first time flying in a small plane.” Mrs. Creamer said. “We were thrilled. This was an experience we will never forget.”
Cruising at 6,000 feet, the Creamers spent less than an hour in the air, taking off from Republic Airport in Farmingdale and landing at Philadelphia International Airport. Hopscotch made sure they were taken care of, with a car service escorting them to and from their private plane.
“It was all so exquisite,” Mrs. Creamer said. “The plane ride was smooth…the pilot was amazing, and the accommodations that [Hopscotch President and CEO] Andrew Schmertz arranged for us were excellent. It was the attention to detail that made it so grand. We really felt like VIP's thanks to Andrew.”
Hopscotch Air's promotion delved into the creativity of Islanders fans, asking them to write, in 200 words or fewer, why they should be chosen for round-trip airfare and tickets to the game. There were over 300 entries through the two-week long promotion. In the end, Mrs. Creamer’s post caught the attention of fans, getting 40 “likes.” The witty, rhyming poem also caught the judge’s eyes, which was ultimately all she needed. As a thank you to all participants, Hopscotch Air gave a coupon to any participants for 10% off their first flight with the company. Hopscotch serves hundreds of airports through the northeast and mid-Atlantic, including seven NHL cities.
“If I could take Hopscotch Air to every [New York Islanders] away game I would,” Mrs. Creamer said. “What a way to go! No fuss, no muss, no TRAFFIC!”
