Islanders Set to Draft 5th Overall

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

As a result of the NHL Draft Drawing on Monday night, the Islanders will stay in their original slot for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and select fifth overall on Friday, June 20.

The Islanders will select fifth in a draft year that has a deep talent pool at the forward and defense positions. The Islanders also have two picks in the second round and two picks in the third round.

"We are in an excellent position to draft any one of several blue-chip prospects at the top of our board," said Islanders general manager Garth Snow. "June 20 will be an important day for the Islanders because it will be the first day in the career of a cornerstone player for us."

Winning the Draft Drawing on Monday night was the Tampa Bay Lightning, which was slotted first heading into the lottery.

Among the many great young talents the Islanders will be able to choose from with the 5th overall selection in the first round is this list of 12 from the International Scouting Service (ISS).
