Sorokin Gets Silver Medal:


Ilya Sorokin and Team Russia took home the silver medal at the World Juniors. Sorokin stopped 15-of-18 shots as Russia fell 5-4 to Canada. Sorokin relieved Igor Shestyorkin, who conceded two goals on three shots.

Soderstrom Play for Bronze At World Juniors

Goaltender Linus Soderstrom finished Team Sweden’s exhibition rounds at the 2015 World Junior Championships with a 4-0 record, a .940 save percentage and 1.50 goals-against average, ranking third among goaltenders with 94 saves. In a quarterfinal matchup versus Finland, Soderstrom stopped 30 shots in a 6-3 win, but then surrendered four goals on 30 shots in a 4-1 loss to Russia in the semifinals. Despite the loss, Soderstrom received “Top Player” honors for Sweden against Russia. Soderstrom made 25 saves in a 4-2 loss to Slovakia in the bronze medal game.

Burroughs Anchors Pats Blueline

Kyle Burroughs recorded a pair of assists for the Regina Pats of the WHL last week. Burroughs leads Regina blueliners with five goals, 17 assists and 22 points and leads the entire team with a +29 rating through 35 games. The New York Islanders selected the Langley, British Columbia native in the seventh round of the 2013 NHL Draft. Burroughs started the 2014–15 season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and played in nine AHL games before rejoining Regina.

Bridgeport Sound Tigers:  16-14-3-1, 5th in Northeast Division, 11th in Eastern Conference

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers ended their week with a 4-3 win over the Albany Devils, halting a three-game skid. Colin McDonald and Ryan Pulock scored in a 6-2 loss to the Worcester Sharks on Tuesday. On Friday, Scooter Vaughan and Chris Langkow scored in a 4-2 loss to the Providence Bruins. The Sound Tigers split two games with the Albany Devils, losing 7-4 on Saturday before responding with a 4-3 win on Sunday. Cory Conacher led the way with four points (one goal, three assists) against the Devils, while forward Alan Quine (two goals, one assist) and defensemen Aaron Ness (one goal, two assists) and Jesse Graham (three assists) recorded three points in the series. Harry Zolnierczyk scored a goal in both games.

Stockton Thunder: 13-21-1, 7th in Pacific Division, 13th in Western Conference

The Stockton Thunder dropped their final two games of 2014 to the Ontario Reign and opened up 2015 with a loss to the Bakersfield Condors. The Thunder and Reign met again in 2015, with Ontario skating to a 3-2 win.  Loic Leduc was reassigned to the Thunder from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Sunday.
