On Matthew Puempel - Puempel is a goal scorer who had his year end early after having hip surgery. He carried a very weak team offensively and had 34 goals in 55 games. He has a very hard shot and good release and will take the puck to the net. He has very good offensive instincts, but he needs to work on his overall quickness and his defensive game.

If the Islanders select Matthew Puempel, he will be the second player drafted by the franchise who played junior hockey for the Peterborough Petes. Evgeny Korolev was selected by the Isles 102nd overall in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

Korolev, a defenseman, dressed for his NHL debut in 1999-00, then went on to split three seasons between the Islanders and their minor league affiliate (the Lowell Lock Monsters, Louisville Panthers and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers). In 42 NHL games, Korolev posted one goal, four assists and 20 penalty minutes.
