The Islanders ICE Tour made a stop in Woodhaven today to be a part of the 8th Annual Forest Park Read-A-Thon. The event, which is designed to help stress the importance and benefits of reading to young children, was held at the George Seuffert Bandshell in Forest Park. The day was filled with fun activities for the children, which included a chance to meet Gordon from Sesame Street and a “Keep it Green” campaign that involved the students fishing, going on scavenger hunts, and petting live animals. The kids also had an opportunity to stop by the ICE Tour set up where they could bounce around in an inflatable moonbounce or test their best slap shot in the inflatable slap shot booth. The children got even more excited when their favorite mascot, Sparky, came out and joined in on the fun. Every kid had a great time and walked away with some great Islanders prizes as well as a book that was provided to them by the Woodhaven library to get them to continue to read.
