I.C.E. Tour Stops At Town of Hempstead Street Hockey Tournament

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

The I.C.E. Tour was out in full force Monday morning as the train of Islanders vehicles made its way down to beautiful Shell Creek Park in Island Park. The park played host to this year’s Town of Hempstead Street Hockey Tournament, an exciting two-day tournament run by the Town of Hempstead. Participants included children who attend the various parks within the township’s summer recreation programs. Teams from parks such as Salisbury Park, Speno Park, Vets Park and many others all had children ranging in ages from 5-years-old to 7-years-old competing in some friendly games of street hockey. Sparky the Dragon joined in a few, trying to help lead his team to victory with some great feeds to the younger children. Also on hand was the Islanders RV as well as the interactive inflatable games. Three of the Ice Girls also came and visited the children, wishing them luck in their games and taking photos with some of the teams. The day was halted by the heavy rain that fell, but there is still plenty of hockey left to be played as the tournament will resume with some of the older children on Wednesday, so be sure to check it out!
