The Islanders I.C.E. Tour teamed up with Bethpage Federal Credit Union for the annual Memorial Day Weekend Air Show at Jones Beach.  With a record crowd of about 236,000 in attendance, Long Islanders of all ages were treated to beautiful summer weather and incredible airborne spectacles, in addition to some Islanders-themed activities.

Long Islanders hit the beach to witness the incredible stunts put on by a wide-array of skilled pilots.  There was non-stop excitement overhead all weekend long.  Jets soared through the air performing remarkable maneuvers, parachutists rapidly descended to the sand and members of the armed forces put some of their aerial tactics on display.

With two hubs on the buzzing Jones Beach boardwalk, the Islanders I.C.E. Tour made its presence known throughout the weekend.  Both booths featured prize wheels with a wide range of potential rewards for all participants.  Isles’ fan Laura Abrams was ecstatic upon winning a pair of tickets to an Islanders game this upcoming season.

“I’m really excited, I really love [the Islanders].” Abrams said.  “I’ve really wanted to go see a game.”

Abrams was one of many happy winners at the Islanders I.C.E. Tour stations.  Islanders’ Community Relations Manager, Ann Rina, was particularly thrilled with just how many Long Islanders left the Islanders’ booths with smiles on their faces and giveaways in hand.

“We’ve had thousands of people here at our table taking home tons of goodies,” Rina said.  “We’ve had kids signing up for our Islanders Kids Club that we have revamped for the 2010-11 season as well.”

Just a short trip from the boardwalk was the Islanders’ moon-bounce where young fans enjoyed jumping around an Isles-themed funhouse.  One stay in the moon bounce was hardly enough for many visitors, as boys and girls continued to line up for several chances to play inside.

Sparky the Dragon, the Islanders official mascot, was also on hand at Jones Beach to both meet his young fans and get a nice offseason tan.  Roaming both the beach and the boardwalk, Sparky posed for pictures with children and adults alike, in addition to signing autographs and slapping high-fives.  The fun-loving dragon also took some time to play on the beach with some very excited young fans.  The Islanders’ Ice Girls were also in attendance and were a hit with the crowd as always.

The entire weekend was a blast from start to finish for everyone who stopped by.  Bethpage Federal Credit Union Vice President of Corporate Development, Linda Armyn, couldn’t have been happier with how things turned out.

“We’re happy to have our partner, the New York Islanders, with us sharing all the fun,” Armyn said.  “We have planes swirling, diving, swizzing around all day long, kids are having a blast, and it’s just so much fun to be here.”

The weekend proved to be a quintessential Long Island bash, highlighted by family time at the beach, incredible sights and sounds, and a great deal of fun in the sun.
