Hockey's most-viewed content website to serve as presenting sponsor of Islanders unprecedented blogging programHockeybuzz.com
, the most-viewed independent hockey content website on the internet with millions of unique visitors worldwide, has partnered with the Islanders as the presenting sponsor of the NYI BLOG BOX
The NYI BLOG BOX is the first-of-its-kind press box for bloggers for Islanders home games at the Nassau Coliseum. In addition, the first selected group of Islanders bloggers will have their columns highlighted on the team's website – positive, negative or neutral.
"I think the idea of the NYI BLOG BOX is brilliant," said Eklund, the Founder and Chief Writer of Hockeybuzz. "It is exactly the kind of web 2.0 idea that is moving the NHL past the other pro sports leagues, and I want to be a part of that. It is an intriguing concept from an innovative organization. The concept of allowing fans inside the team like this is unique not just in terms of hockey, but in all of pro sports. As part of the mainstream media, I embrace this because I have learned how many amazing hockey voices are out there writing hockey on the internet.
"If I have learned anything through my experience it is that hockey fans feel like we are in on some special secret club. It is hockey fans, not major television deals or corporate sponsors who drive the sport. For this reason the internet was made for hockey. Any hockey fan who remembers the pre-internet days in the US remembers a world where hockey information was virtually non-existent. Now every hockey story breaks in seconds to a worldwide audience."
The announcement of the first roster of NYI Blog Boxers will be announced within a week. The actual NYI Blog Box, which will be found at the top of the lower bowl of the Coliseum, will debut on Opening Night on Oct. 6 when the Islanders host the Buffalo Sabres. The Islanders plan on credentialing 12 bloggers, in addition to many media outlets interested in covering the debut of the Blog Box.
"We thank Hockeybuzz.com for their sponsorship of this unique program," said Sean Argaman, the Islanders Senior Director of Sales, Corporate Sponsorships. "When you consider what Hockeybuzz.com has accomplished on the Internet and what the NYI BLOG BOX strives for, our department felt it was a perfect fit." about Hockeybuzz.com:
