Will DeVry and Ryan Paevey, stars of the ABC daytime drama General Hospital teamed up with the New York Islanders for the Hockey & Heels event on Valentine’s Day Weekend.
The event was split into a dinner on Friday evening and a lunch on Saturday afternoon prior to a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Hockey & Heels aimed to teach the basics of hockey to attendees with a Hockey 101 panel led by Islanders Director of Player Development Eric Cairns and Director of Sports Performance Sean Donellan. The weekend provided the actors with a few thrills as well.
“I went skating at the Coliseum, which was great,” DeVry said. “I got to shoot the puck with some of the guys and do a few of the drills, so that was fantastic.”
Before the game, fans had the opportunity to purchase a Valentine’s Day Puck Surprise for $25. The pucks, chosen at random through a raffle, were signed by an Islanders player. However, if the puck was unsigned, the fan was able to meet an Islanders player after the game. All 400 pucks, double the number of last year, sold out prior to puck drop.
The soap stars watched Saturday’s win with their fans, but also displayed custom goalie masks, designed by the cast members of General Hospital, on the Coliseum concourse. The masks are currently being auctioned off online until February 22, with all proceeds benefitting the Islanders Children’s Foundation.
