The National Hockey League announced today that forward Michael Grabner has been selected to represent the New York Islanders at the 2011 NHL All Star Weekend in Raleigh, NC. Grabner is one of 12 rookies chosen to join the NHL All Stars at the Honda NHL SuperSkills on Saturday, Jan. 29.

Grabner, 23, has 12 points (nine goals, three assists) in 36 games with the Islanders this season. His nine goals are tied for sixth amongst all NHL rookies. The Villach, Austria, native made his NHL debut last season with the Vancouver Canucks, playing in 20 games and posting 11 points (five goals, six assists). Grabner was traded from Vancouver to the Florida Panthers this offseason, before the New York Islanders claimed him off of waivers on Oct. 5, 2010.

On Friday, Jan. 28, a fantasy draft event will take place with 42 NHL All-Stars and 12 rookies, during which captains will draft the remaining members of their respective teams. Following the selection of the All-Star game rosters, captains will select among the 12 rookies to fill out the rosters for the Honda NHL SuperSkills. Teams will participate in six different skills, including NHL Fastest Skater, NHL Breakaway Challenge, Accuracy Shooting, Skills Challenge Relay, NHL Hardest shot and the NHL Elimination Shoot Out.
