While the Islanders took the ice on Monday night and defeated the highly talented Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1, Islanders Iceworks in Syosset was holding a friendly Got Skills competition for the Squirts and Pee Wees of the rink. Got Skills is the ultimate challenge for Squirt and Pee Wee age youth ice hockey players. The competition allows the young players to compete head to head in a series of different skill sets that are vital in the game of hockey.
The competition included a fastest skater event, which determined who can complete one lap around the rink the fastest, a puck handling competition where players navigated a puck through and around an obstacle of cones, a series of goaltender challenges, and everyone’s favorites, the hardest shot and most accurate shooter. Although all the children competing to be the top in their competition, the event’s main purpose is to create a fun atmosphere for all the kids involved, which is exactly what was accomplished today at Islanders Iceworks.
