Islanders (15-12-3) vs. Atlanta (18-9-6)

(7:00 p.m. ET, TV: FSN NY 2| Radio: Bloomberg 1130) The Islanders return home to the Nassau Coliseum to host Marian Hossa, Ilya Kovalchuk and the high-flying Atlanta Thrashers.

Yesterday, the Islanders fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins by the score of 7-4, behind Ryan Malone's hat trick. Miroslav Satan, Jason Blake and Tom Poti each tallied a goal and an assist in the losing effort. Blake's 16 goals on the season ranks him tied for 15th in the NHL and his nine power play goals are good for a fifth-place tie.

Tonight is the second of four meeting with the Southeast division leaders, who have posted the fourth highest goal total among all NHL teams. The last time these two teams faced-off, back on November 4, the Thrashers came away with a 4-1 victory at the Coliseum on four different goal scorers.

The past four games, however, the Thrashers have had trouble scoring, compiling only six goals in a span in which they've gone 0-2-2.

Last night, Atlanta was handed a 3-2 overtime loss courtesy of Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. After Ovechkin tied the game with 31 seconds left in the third period, he went on to complete his hat trick six seconds into the overtime session. Kari Lehtonen was in goal for the Thrashers, allowing three goals on 33 shots. Jon Sim and J.P. Vigier scored the goals for Atlanta, a team that hasn't won since downing Toronto on December 5.

Despite their recent scoring struggles, Atlanta possess three of the top 20 scorers in the league in Hossa (42), Slava Kozlov (37) and Kovalchuk (36). Each of these Europeans can hurt you in different ways: Hossa with his hands, Kozlov with his vision and Kovalchuk with his speed.

Chris King and Steve Mears have the call on Bloomberg Radio 1130, while Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe can be seen tonight on FSN NY 2.
