Come Watch Bridgeport Playoff Action

As the Bridgeport Sound Tigers begin their quest for the 2009 Calder Cup, Islanders fans will be able to get a great view of the action. The Sound Tigers’ first two games of the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs will be played at the Nassau Coliseum.


The games will take place on the weekend of April 17th, with exact game dates and times still to be announced. Check back to newyorkislanders.com for more information in the coming days.

FORMER HAWAIIAN GOVERNOR PAYS A VISIT

Former Hawaii Gov. Benjamin Cayetano and his wife, Vicky, were special guests of Islanders owner Charles B. Wang on Saturday night.

“It’s incredible, it’s so much different than watching it on TV—these guys hit really hard,” said Governor Cayetano, who was attending is first hockey game. “The fans have been really nice to us, we’re having a great time.”

Cayetano's memoir, Ben: A Memoir from Street Kid to Governor—which has been called a “must-read” by the Hawaii Reporter—will soon be available on Amazon.com, after selling out its first printing.

“It’s exceeded my expectations,” said Governor Cayetano, who was Hawaii’s governor from 1994–2002. “A publisher approached me and asked if I would be interested in writing a memoir, and I said OK, and I am very pleased with the results.”

NEULION NOMINATED FOR SPORTS BUSINESS AWARD

The SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily recently announced the 2009 Sports Business Awards nominees. NeuLion was nominated for the “Best In Sports Technology” award.

In addition to NeuLion—Cisco Systems (for Cisco Stadium Vision), EA Sports/ESPN (for EA Sports Virtual Playbook on ESPN) and MLB Advanced Media (for MLB At Bat)—were nominated in the category.

The awards gala will be on May 28th.



106TH RESCUE WING TAKES IN A GAME

Members of the security forces squadron from the 106th Rescue Wing Air Force Base in Westhampton and their families were in attendance on Saturday night. Many of the members have recently returned from overseas.



TOWN OF NORTH HEMPSTEAD NIGHT

Saturday was Town of North Hempstead Night, offering discounted tickets to fans from that community. Prior to the game, Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman was presented with an Islanders jersey by Kyle Okposo.

The next Town Night will be Town of Smithtown Night this Thursday, April 2, when the Islanders take on the Montreal Canadiens.

FALLEN SUFFOLK COUNTY OFFICER HONORED

The Islanders honored fallen police officer Glen Ciano, presenting a jersey to his family during Saturday night’s game. Ciano, a 22-year Suffolk County Police Department veteran, was killed when his patrol car was struck by another vehicle.
