Late-night games get old, but seeing the Islanders go 3-0-0 and beating the New York Rangers at the Garden never does. The Islanders capped off 6-1-0 road trip with three straight wins this week, 3-2 in Vancouver, 4-3 in Winnipeg and 6-4 at MSG. They saved the best for last, in what was a wild, back-and-forth game that saw seven goals and Cal Clutterbuck win it with 1:28 to play in the third period.
GOAL OF THE WEEK: CAL CLUTTERBUCK VS. RANGERS
Come on, what else could it be? Obviously scoring a game-winning, back-breaking goal against the Rangers with 1:28 to play is going to get goal of the week consideration, but it helps that did it Cal Clutterbuck did it in style.
Handlebar mustache style.
Clutterbuck absolutely snipes this one off the draw, picking the left corner over Antti Raanta’s shoulder. He’s got a lethal wrister, as documented previously here in Best of the Week. It’s fast, hard and comes off a quick release. Raanta didn’t even know what hit him – or didn’t hit him – until he saw Clutterbuck down on one knee fist pumping and heard the Garden groan.
Send Clutterbuck some love. We’re all #CalsPals now.
