Best of the Week

by Cory Wright / New York Islanders

Well, Sunday was a lot of fun. The Islanders went off for an 8-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers at Barclays Center, their most goals since a 9-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 11, 2011. That capped off a 2-2 week for the Islanders that saw some pretty impressive stats:

13 goals in the two wins, 8-1 over Edmonton and 5-3 over Minnesota on Tuesday

2 goalies chased, as the Islanders ended Devan Dubnyk and Anders Nilsson’s nights early in each win

40 saves for Jean-Francois Berube in his first NHL win. Congrats Berubs!

3 goals for Kyle Okposo against the Oilers, his second-career hat trick

Set aside some time to watch all 13 goals, but in the meantime, enjoy the best goals, photos and moments from last week:

GOAL OF THE WEEK: JOHN TAVARES VS. EDMONTON

John Tavares takes this week’s honors with his snipe over former-Islander Anders Nilsson. It takes a pretty special shot to go over the shoulder of a 6’5 goalie and under the crossbar, but the Islanders captain pulls it off. Thread, meet needle. Throw in the sharp angle and you’ve got your goal of the week people. For good measure, Tavares finished the game with three points (1G, 2A) and had six points (3G, 3A) this week.
