The Official Site of the New York Islanders

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

As tough and irritating as Monday mornings may be for students was not the case for the children of William Buck Elementary School in Valley Stream this morning.  Rather than waking up to do math problems and go over this week’s vocabulary words, the children were instead sent to they gym where they would be treated to an assembly run by Islander alumni Steve Webb and Eric Cairns.  Along with Monica the Ice Girl and their pal Sparky, Steve and Eric put on a half hour assembly all revolving around one concept, the importance of teamwork.  A video made by ITV aided in the presentation by showing the current Islanders also conveying the message of teamwork and unity.  The players on the ice work as one unit the way a class can work together to overcome a problem.  The children learned that classmates are actually teammates and can be relied on for help and growth.  Everyone had a great time seeing the former players and really took in the message, as well as received an early Christmas present, an Islander gift bag, when they returned to their regular class.
