The children of Andrew T. Morrow Elementary School of Islandia were in for a real treat on Tuesday morning as the “We’re All Islanders” School Assembly program—sponsored by SUPERCUTS and National Grid—made its next visit to a local school.
The gym was packed with more than 650 students and the entire faculty as radio play-by-play announcer Steve Mears, along with arena hostess Dina, were on stage to teach the children about the importance of teamwork.
With some help from their friend Sparky, the duo explained to the children how working together can help them accomplish their goals much quicker and more efficiently. Through the help of a video of the current Islanders explaining teamwork, fun and interactive demonstrations involving teamwork and a comparison of the school to the Islanders organization, by the end of the assembly the children had a much better understanding of how important it is to work with others and how it can help them succeed in life.
All 650 students then cheered as they found out the news that each would be receiving an Islanders gift bag with a ticket to a game in it. The Islanders also donated some hockey equipment to the school so students can play floor hockey in their gym classes.
