Islanders all-star goaltender Rick DiPietro is serving as a guest studio analyst for VERSUS during the network’s coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs through Thursday this week.
Asked by the panel in the VERSUS studio on Monday night if he could have kept his cool as Martin Brodeur did when Sean Avery performed his unique brand of interference, DiPietro pondered it for a few seconds and then said, “I highly doubt it.”
Earlier, Rick suggested that “probably 90% of the league was wishing a slap shot would have hit him in the back of the head.”
DiPietro is in the VERSUS studio with host Bill Patrick and analysts Keith Jones and Brian Engblom.
“Rick is the face of the Islanders and one of the rising stars of the National Hockey League,” said Michael Baker, coordinating producer for the NHL on VERSUS. “It’s a privilege for us to have his personality and insight as part of our studio team. We’re delighted he’s going to join us for four consecutive nights of coverage this week.”
Said DiPietro after his first night: "I thought it went pretty well. The guys on the panel and the crew really made me feel comfortable. I’d much rather be playing, but it’s been enjoyable and it’s a good experience watching all of the games.”
