The NHL is using the framework set forth in the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to evaluate our own Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) efforts.

The U.N. Sustainable Development Goals were developed as a call to action to promote equity and prosperity while protecting the planet. By evaluating our current and future social impact efforts through the SDG framework, we hope to continue to build more resilient, more inclusive and more equitable communities where we live work and play - using the sport of hockey as the catalyst for change.

UN SDG 3 GOOD HEALTH and WELL-BEING

Through physical literacy programs like Learn-to-Play/Learn-to-Skate programs. Learn to Play is a program that provides a unique opportunity for families to join the hockey community and for participants to develop fundamental skills to help them succeed both on and off the ice. Learn to Play's goal is to inspire youth and welcome more families into the hockey community. The value of learning to play hockey goes beyond skating and puck-handling skills. Its' greatest value is the role it plays in the development of character and life skills such as RESPONSIBILITY, RESPECT, INTEGRITY, PERSEVERANCE and TEAMWORK.

UN SDG 4 QUALITY EDUCATION

Through our robust STEM-focused education programs like Future Goals. In partnership with EVERFI, the nation's leading critical skills education platform, the Future Goals Program teaches important skills with a STEM sports curriculum that helps prepare kids for success in life. Using the fast-paced, exciting game of hockey as a STEM learning vehicle, the program helps students understand the real world applications of science and math principles.

UN SDG 6 CLEAN WEATER and SANITIZATION

Through our efforts to educate around our water stewardship and consumption efforts.NHL Green continues to advance innovations in our arenas and across the ice hockey eco-system, including the 4,500 community rinks across North America.

UN SDG 10 REDUCED INEQUALITIES

Through our efforts to address disparities in the sport of hockey, from awareness, innovations and program funding of hockey programs in underserved communities via our Hockey is For Everyone initiative. Additionally, we execute programs throughout the year that honor the diversity and inclusivity of our hockey community via efforts like Black History Month, Gender Equality Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Pride Month and related efforts that demonstrate our commitment to DEI.
