RALEIGH, NC—Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Glen Wesley will hold a news conference today at 1:30 p.m. to announce his intentions for the 2008-09 NHL season. The news conference will be held in the Media Room on the Arena level of the RBC Center and will begin at 1:30 p.m. Hurricanes President and General Manager Jim Rutherford will also be present and available for comment.

Wesley, 39, completed his 20th NHL season and 13th with the Hurricanes in 2007-08. The Red Deer, Alb., native led all Hurricanes skaters in blocked shots (110) and was selected by the Carolina chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association as its nominee for the 2007-08 Masterton Trophy, which honors perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Wesley finished the season with one goal and seven assists (8 points) in 78 games played, and moved up to sixth on the list of all-time games played by a defenseman, reaching 1,457 games. He is the only player to have played for the Hurricanes in every season since the team relocated to North Carolina in 1997.
