REVIEW: Washington Capitals 4, HURRICANES 2

by Staff Writer / Carolina Hurricanes

Martin Gelinas and Andrei Kovalenko each scored their 14th goal of the season in the third period in a 4-2 loss against the Washington Capitals on the road.

Arturs Irbe was in net for his league-leading 64th game of the season, recording 20 saves. During the game, Irbe established a franchise single season record for minutes played.

"We created enough to win the game," Carolina coach Paul Maurice said. "We didn't quit. We kept pushing the issue, but it makes it tough when you give up a couple of power-play goals."

The Hurricanes, one of five teams in the hunt for the final two spots in the Eastern Conference, travel to face one of those teams, the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, March 18.
