GAME NIGHT:
The Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers do battle for the third time this season, Wednesday night at National Car Rental Center. Hurricanes Jeff O’Neill (11/18-11/26: 3g, 3a) and Bates Battaglia (11/18-11/26: 2g, 2a) each carry four game points streaks into the contest. O’Neill has also tallied an assist in each of the Hurricanes last three games. The Panthers have improved from their 1-9-4-3 start to the 2000-01 season having gone 4-2-0-0 since November 15. Pavel Bure leads all Florida scorers with 13 goals—10 more than his closest teammate—and seven assists.

CAROLINA / FLORIDA SERIES:
The Hurricanes and Florida have met twice this season. On October 13, at Florida, the teams skated to a 2-2 tie thanks to Pavel Bure’s third period goal. On November 15, a struggling Panther team came to Raleigh and left with their second win of the season. Florida defenseman Robert Svehla leads all scorers in this season’s series with three points (0g, 3a) in the two contests. Carolina is led by rookie center Josef Vasicek (1g, 1a) and winger Sami Kapanen (0g, 2a). Last season the Hurricanes posted a 3-2 record against the Panthers in the teams’ five match-ups. Carolina forward Jeff O’Neill led all scorers in the series with seven points (3g, 4a). Carolina posts an 11-14-7 record all-time against the Panthers and are 4-6-6 on Florida ice.

Injured Florida players include Igor Larionov (has missed eight games), Mike Wilson (14), Viktor Kozlov (11) and team captain Scott Mellanby (10).
