, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has trimmed its training camp roster by 16 players. The team’s roster now stands at 33 players as the team prepares for a two-game trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and St. Johns, Newfoundland, for exhibition games against the Islanders and Senators.
Forwards Erik Karlsson, Patrick Brown, Kyle Hagel and Carter Sandlak, defensemen Danny Biega, Keegan Lowe, Tyler Ganly and Jake Chelios; and goaltenders Rasmus Tirronen and Daniel Altshuller have been assigned to Charlotte of the American Hockey League (AHL). Forwards T.J. Hensick, Zach Boychuk and Justin Shugg, and defenseman Rasmus Rissanen will be assigned to Charlotte as well, pending waivers.
Forward Lucas Wallmark has been assigned to Lulea of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Defenseman Roland McKeown has been returned to his junior team, Kingston of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). An updated Hurricanes training camp roster can be found here.
The Hurricanes travel to Halifax, Nova Scotia, this afternoon, where they will take on the Islanders on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. Carolina will then face the Ottawa Senators on Sunday in St. Johns, Newfoundland (3:30 p.m. ET), before returning home Sunday evening.
The Hurricanes begin the 2015-16 regular season at Nashville on Oct. 8, and will play their home opener against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, Oct. 10, at PNC Arena.
