– Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the team has recalled forward Jeff Heerema from Lowell of the American Hockey League (AHL). Heerema will be available to play in Carolina’s game against Philadelphia on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the RBC Center.
Heerema (6’1’’, 190 lbs.) is currently in his third professional season. He has played 10 games for Lowell this season, registering 12 points (6g, 6a). Heerema, 22, led the Lock Monsters in goals (33), assists (37) and points (70) last season. Originally drafted by Carolina in the first round (11th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Heerema played 73 games with Cincinnati of the International Hockey League (IHL) in his first professional season in 2000-02, tallying 33 points (17g, 16a). He has yet to make his NHL debut.
