RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Brett Carson from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. To clear room on the 23-player roster for Carson, the Hurricanes placed goaltender Cam Ward on injured reserve.
The marks the first NHL recall for the 23-year-old Carson. The Regina, Sask., native has scored one goal and earned 10 assists (11 points) in 23 games with Albany in this, his third professional season. Carson (6’4”, 220 lbs.) has earned 53 points (5g, 48a) in 163 career regular-season AHL games with Albany since turning professional in 2006-07. The Hurricanes drafted Carson in the fourth round, 109th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
