The Carolina Hurricanes today extended qualifying offers to forwards Zach Boychuk, Greg Nemisz, Justin Shugg, Jared Staal and Jiri Tlusty and defensemen Michal Jordan and Rasmus Rissanen, retaining their restricted free agent statuses.

Tlusty is perhaps the most notable name on this list, as he led the team with 23 goals in the 2012-13 48-game season. Last year, Tlusty tallied 30 points (16g, 14a) in 68 games, missing time due to an appendectomy. Boychuk also saw time with the big club last season, scoring a goal and adding three assists in 11 games.

Forwards Drayson Bowman, Andrei Loktionov, Aaron Palushaj and Kellan Tochkin and defenseman Tommi Kivisto were not qualified and will become unrestricted free agents on Wednesday, July 1.

The following players are also unrestricted free agents: forwards Nicolas Blanchard, Radek Dvorak, Manny Malhotra, Brett Sutter, defensemen Brett Bellemore, Matthew Corrente, Mark Flood, Mike Komisarek and Joni Pitkanen (heel) and goaltenders Justin Peters and Mike Murphy.

The Canes made a trio of signings on June 24, inking impending unrestricted free agents Chris Terry (one year) and Ron Hainsey (three years) and restricted free agent Nathan Gerbe (two years).
