WILL SERVE AS POINT-PERSON FOR NHL DRAFT AND ALL-STAR GAME
RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 20, 2002) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager for the Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes announced today that the team has named Vice President of Marketing Communications Ken Lehner an Alternate Governor for the team. Lehner will serve as the point-person for the 2004 NHL Draft and the NHL All-Star Game, to be held in Raleigh within the next five years.
Lehner is currently in his fifth season with the Hurricanes. As the Vice President of Marketing Communications, Lehner is responsible for the Hurricanes’ efforts in marketing campaigns, broadcasting, CanesVision, game-night promotions and fan development.
Before joining the Hurricanes, Lehner spent six seasons working in Major League Baseball. He spent one season with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as the Director of Travel and five seasons with the Florida Marlins as the Director of Spring Training Operations. Lehner started his career with Rich Baseball Operations in Buffalo, N.Y., holding the position of Baseball Operations Manager from 1983-92. In 1992, Lehner accepted position of Director of Spring Training Operations with the Marlins. He accepted additional duties in 1994 when he was named the General Manager of the Brevard County Manatees. The Manatees led the Florida State League in attendance for four years, and Lehner was named the Florida State League Executive of the Year in 1997. Lehner and his wife, Barbara, reside in Garner.
