HURRICANES ASSIGN FORWARD TOMMY WESTLUND TO LOWELL OF AHL

LOWELL IS CAROLINA’S TOP MINOR LEAGUE AFFILIATE

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 1, 2002) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the team has assigned right wing Tommy Westlund to Lowell of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Westlund (6’0’’, 202 lbs.) is currently in his fourth NHL season. He has played three games for Carolina this season without registering a point. Westlund, 27, has totaled 22 points (9g, 13a) in 203 career games in the NHL. Originally drafted by Carolina in the fourth round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Westlund has played 50 games in the AHL, tallying 26 points (8g, 18a).
