– Jim Rutherford, President / General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with right wing Jesse Boulerice (BOH-luh-riss) on a one-year contract. As per club policy, no other terms were announced.
“We are pleased to keep Jesse with the Hurricanes,” said Rutherford. “He brings an element that is very important and plays a key role on our team.”
Boulerice, 25, posted career highs in games played (76), goals (6), points (7) and penalty minutes (127) in 2003-04. He led the team in penalty minutes and was one of just 10 Hurricanes players to play in more than 75 regular-season games. In the team’s final two games, the Plattsburgh, NY, native notched three goals, and had his first NHL multiple-goal game on April 2 against the New York Islanders.
Carolina acquired Boulerice from Philadelphia on Feb. 13, 2002, in exchange for forward Greg Koehler. The Flyers drafted Boulerice (6’ 2”, 203 lbs.) in the fifth round, 133rd overall, in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. In 127 NHL games, 124 with Carolina, Boulerice has scored eight goals, notched two assists (10 points) and accumulated 240 penalty minutes.
