On Sept. 7, 2011, we lost one of our former players, Josef Vasicek. He was one of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl players of the KHL that was on the team’s charter that crashed on that tragic day. Big Joe was a key part of our organization and a part of our 2006 Stanley Cup champion team. His big smile was contagious and will be forever remembered by Caniac Nation.
To honor Josef and the entire Lokomotiv team, the Carolina Hurricanes players' wives will host a fundraising event for the families of the fallen KHL team. They will be selling silicon "Love for Lokomotiv" bracelets on the concourse at our home game on Wednesday, October 12. They will have 500 bracelets to sell for $10 each with all proceeds going to the Love for Lokomotiv Foundation. The wives will sell from our Kids 'N Community Foundation kiosk on the main concourse outside section 129. They will begin selling at 6:30 p.m. when the doors open.Love for Lokomotiv
is working with the KHL and Russian organizations to assist the families of players, staff and airline personnel lost in the crash. Love for Lokomotiv was founded by wives of NHL hockey players, and each NHL team will have some involvement with the Foundation.
We encourage all of you to join together to support the families of Big Joe and the entire Lokomotiv team by purchasing a bracelet on Wednesday. We have the most dedicated and heartfelt fans in the NHL and know every Caniac will once again step up to help the families that need us now.
