As an organization, we wanted to assist, and create a way for others to assist, in a manner that would provide an immediate impact. The main needs that continue to permeate the headlines are the need for food, medical supplies, shelter and water. As we searched for a way to immediately aide one of these four needs, we saw the great work one of our sponsors had already begun.
Pepsi Bottling Ventures was quick to respond as they have already delivered 2,889 case packs of Aquafina Water bottles to Haiti. They partnered with our good friends at Fort Bragg to transport the water, which eliminated any overhead cost for this project.
Sunday night, we will be collecting cash donations at all of the main entrances as Pepsi has agreed to deliver one case pack of Aquafina (24 bottles) for every $4 donated. Also, Pepsi Bottling Venture has also agreed to match every donation, so in essence, your $4 will provide 2 cases of Aquafina (48 bottles) to the Haitian relief effort (or you can look at it as $2 per 24 bottle case pack).
It is almost impossible to make your dollar go further than 12 cents per bottle of clean drinking water for a country in dire need.
To help kick this off, the 24 players on the Canes roster have already purchased 600 cases of water. With the Pepsi match, that is 1,200 cases, or 28,800 bottles of Aquafina.
At Sunday evening’s 5 p.m. game against Boston, the wives and girlfriends of our Hurricanes players will be stationed at all seven of the main entrances to collect money. You can toss your dollars or change into the large blue Aquafina tubs and we will quickly turn that into bottles of water headed to Haiti. I know I don’t always carry cash these days, so be sure to bring a few dollars or even just clean out the change tray in your car.
