Both our team and our Foundation have been successful.
This past Monday, our Kids ‘N Community Foundation board met to distribute grants for this spring/summer cycle, the second of two grant cycles for this hockey season. The board was presented with 30 total grant requests and decided to fund (partially or in full) 23 of the grants for a total of $226,500. The board did their best to spread money around as many non-profits are struggling with declining donations and shrinking endowments.
One of the things I like most about our Foundation, and the mission of our board, is our ability to help many different types of children’s organizations. The groups that will receive their checks at Tuesday night’s game range from large organizations like Duke Children’s Hospital, Special Olympics NC and Make-A-Wish to smaller, grassroots organizations like Neighbor 2 Neighbor, Flashes of Hope and Wee Care.
When you couple this spring’s donations with the donations from our fall ’08 grant cycle, the Kids ‘N Community Foundation has donated over $506,000 to 43 different children’s organizations across are state. All of which assist children in our three main areas of focus: health, education and under served populations.
Last year was the first year we eclipsed the half-million dollar mark as we donated over $578,000 to 37 different youth organizations. To follow that up with another year above the $500,000 mark is truly awesome and could not have been achieved without the great help of our fans.
Thanks to everyone who has supported the Kids ‘N Community Foundation in some way. Whether you bought a raffle ticket at a Cool Bar, purchased a Valentine’s day T-shirt, won a silent auction item, spent big on a live auction item at Casino Night, or anything in between…we could not have done this without you.
We promise to continue to be good stewards of your donations and those receiving funding will be front and center at Tuesday night’s game during the first intermission.
Keep your eyes on ch.com as we might have some details of a cool KNCF playoff fundraiser to announce very soon. And to all the Caniacs who shave their face, don’t worry if you run out of shaving cream this week…hopefully it will not be needed again until June.
