For the third straight year, the Hurricanes will wear special jerseys honoring the military during pregame warm-up. Fans will have three different ways to take home one of the camouflage jerseys, with proceeds being split between the USO of North Carolina and the Kids ‘N Community Foundation.
Fans that renew their season tickets or become new season ticket holders for the 2015-16 season will be entered in the 30 Prizes in 30 Days promotion. That entry will make those fans eligible to win the camouflage jersey worn in warm-up by Captain Eric Staal (drawn on March 6), or the one worn by Cam Ward (drawn on March 7). For more details on the 30 Prizes in 30 Days promotion, visit www.CarolinaHurricanes.com/canes30.
Those in attendance also can win the military jerseys worn by Justin Faulk and Nathan Gerbe via silent auction during Sunday’s game at the Kids ‘N Community Foundation kiosk outside of Section 129. The auction will end during the second intermission, and the winner of each jersey will receive a meet-and-greet with the respective player following the game. The remaining camouflage jerseys will be auctioned through NHL Auctions at a later date, with all proceeds benefitting the USO of North Carolina and the Kids ‘N Community Foundation. Details regarding these auctions will be available at www.CarolinaHurricanes.com/foundation in the near future.
New for this season’s Military Appreciation Game will be the coaching staff, members of the front office, and Hurricanes broadcasters wearing dark gray camouflage ties. The ties worn by Ron Francis, Bill Peters and Rod Brind’Amour will be auctioned via the Foundation kiosk on March 8. The remaining ties will be auctioned at a later date.
Prior to Sunday’s game, fans can enjoy a special display of military equipment and vehicles on the PNC Arena South Plaza beginning at 1 p.m. During the game, military branches will have tables on the main concourse where fans can learn more and interact with military personnel.
Coinciding with this year’s Military Appreciation Game, the Hurricanes are hosting a Military Appreciation Drive. Fans donating new, unopened packages of washcloths or travel-sized accessories at the entrances of PNC Arena will be entered to win prizes. All donations benefit the USO of North Carolina for soldiers returning from deployment at Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune.
The 82nd Airborne Division’s All-American Chorus will perform the U.S. national anthem prior to Sunday’s game, and also will perform during each intermission. During the anthem, the colors will be presented by the 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade color guard, representing the XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg. Sergeant Michael S. Roginski will drop the ceremonial puck and various active and reserve members of the military will be recognized and honored throughout the game.
