RALEIGH, NC (June 8, 2000) –Eleven street hockey teams from across the state of North Carolina will compete this weekend in the Canes’ Mobile Hockey Tour Championships presented by Reichhold. The two-day street hockey tournament will begin at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 10 in a round-robin format with the top teams advancing to the Championship Round on Sunday, June 11. All games will take place on the Hurricanes’ inflatable rink system in the East Bus Lot of the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Raleigh.
Teams competing in the 10-and-Under, 12-and-Under, and 14-and-Under age divisions representing Cary, Charlotte, Fayetteville, Morehead City and Pinehurst qualified for the Championships based upon their play in Canes’ Mobile Hockey Tournaments held earlier this year in Charlotte, Fayetteville, and Raleigh.
The Canes Mobile Hockey Tour presented by Reichhold, in its second year of existence, strives to give local youth hockey players the opportunity to play in quality tournaments at a low cost and meet teams from across the state. Last April, Clemson University captured the Canes College In-Line Hockey Tournament after Elon was victorious in 1999. This fall, the NHL’s In-Line hockey tournament, NHL Breakout, will visit the Entertainment and Sports Arena on September 9-10. For more information on the in-line hockey program, contact Hurricanes Youth and Amateur Hockey Coordinator, Brian Mehm, at (919) 467-7825, ext. 2209.
