RALEIGH, -- The Hurricanes blanked the struggling Dallas Stars, 1-0, Saturday to extend their unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1).
Arturs Irbe recorded his 21st career shutout with 24 saves and Paul Ranheim scored 8:39 into the second period for Carolina, which posted its third straight home win. Irbe recorded his second shutout of the season, also blanking Philadelphia, 2-0, on October 7.
Ranheim scored his first goal since March 26 against Toronto and picked up his first point since the opening game of the season.
Carolina, playing the second contest of a three-game homestand, are in second place in the Southeast Division, four points behind the Florida Panthers.
The Boston Bruins hope to rebound from one of their worst performances of the season The Bruins are coming off a 3-0 loss to the Washington Capitals on Saturday that snapped their four-game unbeaten streak. Boston suffered its second shutout of the season and lost for just the second time in 13 games (9-2-2).
The Bruins are in third place in the Northest Division, five points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs and three in back of the Ottawa Senators.
The Hurricanes beat Boston, 3-1, in their season opener.
