On this date in 1974, Orest Kindrachuk became the first Flyer to score on a penalty shot in team history. He scored the goal in the Flyers' 6-2 win over the Washington Capitals at the Spectrum. He scored the Flyers' third goal of the game, the eventual game-winning goal, on Capitals goaltender Michel Belhumeur at 10:41 of the second period.

It was the second penalty shot attempted by a Flyer in team history (Bill Clement was unsuccessful against Detroit's Jim Rutherford on March 7, 1974) and the first successful penalty shot against in Capitals history.

Kindrachuk later helped lead the Flyers to win the Stanley Cup as a rookie 1974 and would add a second title in 1975.
