June 16, 1990...Flyers Draft Mike Ricci

Mike Ricci with Flyers Chief Scout Jerry Melnyk on draft day. Ricci was the fourth player selected in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, behind Owen Nolan (Quebec), Petr Nedved (Vancouver) and Keith Primeau (Detroit).
On this date in 1990, the Flyers drafted 15 players in the NHL Entry Draft.

The Flyers' first selection was center Mike Ricci as the fourth overall player selected. It was the highest pick for the Flyers since the team selected center Ron Sutter as the fourth overall pick in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. (The highest pick that the Flyers have ever had in an NHL Amateur/Entry Draft was first overall in the 1975 draft when the Flyers selected Mel Bridgman.)

Nine of the 15 players drafted by the Flyers played in the NHL, including Chris Simon (second round, 25th overall), Mikael Renberg (second round, 40th overall), Chris Therien (third round, 47th overall) and Tommy Soderstrom (11th round, 214th overall).
