Following an optional practice in Edmonton, Flyers Executive Vice President and General Manager Chuck Fletcher made the following announcements concerning the status of three of the club's goaltenders.
Goaltender Michal Neuvirth, who took part in practice on Thursday in Edmonton, has returned to Philadelphia to be with his wife for the birth of their child which they are expecting any day.
In addition, goaltender Brian Elliott has also returned to Philadelphia for a scheduled medical appointment. Elliott had accompanied the team through the first three games of the trip, skating and taking part in practices throughout.
As a result, the Flyers have recalled goaltender Alex Lyon from their AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Lyon will join the team in Edmonton and be available for the Flyers game against the Oilers on Friday (9 p.m. ET on NBCSP+ & 93.3 WMMR).
Lyon has appeared in seven games for the Phantoms this season, posting a 3-4-0 record to go along with a 3.48 GAA and .907 save percentage. He has made three of the last five starts for the Phantoms since returning from injury on Dec. 1.
