Highlight of the Year: Semifinal #1

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

The 2015-16 Highlight of the year has reached the final four and this week’s fan vote has two thrilling overtime winners competing against each other in hopes to advance to the finals.

HIGHLIGHT #1: FEB. 20 at Toronto Maple Leafs
In a high-scoring affair, rookie defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere’s record-point streak was on the line after not finding the scoresheet in a 4-4 game headed to overtime. Less than 30 seconds into the extra session, Jakub Voracek flew up the right wing and threw a perfect pass from his backhand to a cutting Gostisbehere, who timed it perfectly and tapped it past James Reimer to give the Flyers a 5-4 win at the Air Canada Centre and extend his streak to 15 consecutive games.

HIGHLIGHT #2: MAR. 28 vs. Winnipeg Jets
This overtime thriller lasted nearly all of overtime with a shootout seeming inevitable. Claude Giroux led a last second rush up the with Gostisbehere jumping up on his wing and into the zone. Giroux’s pass deflected in the air and the play seemed broken until Ghost lept up with Jets’ center Mark Scheifele, batted the puck down with his hand, quickly shoveled it with his stick to Giroux sitting all alone in front and beat Jets’ netminder, Ondrej Pavelec.

Watch each highlight and keeping voting for which clip you want to advance. Voting ends at noon ET on Friday with the results following shortly after.
