Flyers Unofficially Break Wig Record
by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers(Philadelphia, PA, October 30, 2006) – In an effort to break the Guinness World Record for "most fans wearing wigs – single venue," Flyers fans were given orange wigs by the team at their Monday, October 30 contest against the Chicago Blackhawks at Wachovia Center. The Flyers have unofficially broken the standing record (6,213 fans at a Detroit Pistons game on March 19, 2004), gathering 9,315 signatures from the 18,876 fans that attended the game.
In order to be counted for the record, fans had to sign official documentation from Guinness World Records. Official declaration will be determined by Guinness World Records after receipt of all evidence from the Philadelphia Flyers.
"We are always looking to provide a unique experience for our fans," said Flyers Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Shawn Tilger. "We originally intended for this to be a fun giveaway for Halloween, but we are thrilled this turned into an opportunity for our fans to make the Guinness Record books."
