The Philadelphia Flyers have signed 6-1, 190-lb D Andrew MacDonald to a multi-year contract extension, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.
MacDonald, 27 (9/7/1986), was acquired by the Flyers from the New York Islanders on March 4 in exchange for F Matt Mangene, a third-round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, and a second-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
He appeared in 19 games for the Flyers, recording four assists, while averaging 22:00 in ice time per game. MacDonald led the NHL this season with 242 blocked shots, which was 41 more than his closest competition. In 82 total games with the Flyers and Islanders this season, MacDonald recorded four goals and 24 assists for 28 points.
A native of Judique, Nova Scotia, MacDonald was drafted by the Islanders in the sixth round (160th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
