Stefan Ruzicka netted the only goal in the shootout to lead the Philadelphia Flyers over the Washington Capitals, 7-6, in preseason action.

Down 5-1 heading into the third period, the Flyers scored five goals, including three from Jon Sim, with the last one coming with just 18 seconds left in the game, to force an overtime. Joni Pitkanen and Peter Forsberg also scored for the Flyers in the third.

It was Forsberg's first game in the preseason, after he missed most of training camp with an ankle injury.

It's good to get a game under my belt before we started, said Forsberg. Now I feel really confident coming into the first game. I was just trying to work hard get my timing back.

Jeff Halpern tallied three goals in the game, his third coming at the 16:12 mark to give Washington a 6-5 lead. Alexander Ovechkin chipped in a goal and two assists for the Capitals.

Of the 13 goals scored, nine came on the power play as Philadelphia finished 4-for-12 with the man advantage, while Washington was 5-for-12.

The Flyers begin the 2005-06 regular season on Wednesday, October 5, when they host the New York Rangers at the Wachovia Center at 7:00 p.m.
